Resetting the tyre pressure warning light on your Volkswagen

Most UK Volkswagens (Polo, Golf, T-Roc, Tiguan and others) use an indirect system, which VW calls the tyre pressure loss indicator. It watches wheel speeds through the ABS rather than measuring pressure, so it has to be told when the pressures are right. A few larger models, such as the Touareg, have sensors in the wheels instead.

  1. Set all four tyres to the correct cold pressure for your load (the label is inside the fuel flap).
  2. Switch the ignition on and stay parked.
  3. On the touchscreen, press CAR (or Vehicle), open the vehicle settings and choose Tyres.
  4. Press SET, then Confirm to store the pressures.
  5. Drive normally. The system finishes learning over a longer drive at varied speeds.

Older models with a button

  1. With the pressures set and the ignition on, press and hold the SET button with the tyre symbol until it beeps. It's usually by the gear lever; on some Polos it's in the passenger-side storage tray.

When to reset: Store the pressures every time you adjust them or change or swap wheels. The light won't clear on its own.

Menu names vary by model and year, so check your handbook if yours looks different. More in what the warning light means.

Got a different T-Roc? Check by registration

Put your reg in and we'll show the figures for your exact car, including the wheel size it left the factory on.

What tyre pressure should a T-Roc have?

35 psi at the front and 35 psi at the rear (2.4 and 2.4 bar) on the standard 17-inch wheels, with the tyres cold. Larger optional wheels use slightly different figures — see the table above.

Should I use a higher pressure when the car is loaded?

The manufacturer gives one figure for this car, so no. If you're carrying a full load for a long motorway run, the label on the door pillar may show a higher figure — follow that if it does.

What tyre size does the T-Roc use?

215/55R17 or 215/50R18, depending on the wheels it was ordered with. The size is on the tyre's sidewall, e.g. 235/40R18.

Check them cold. Pressures are set for tyres that haven't been driven more than a mile or two. After a run they read 3–4 psi high.

Once a month, and before a long trip. Tyres lose about 1 psi a month on their own.

The sticker wins. If your car's door-pillar or fuel-flap label says something different, go with that — it knows your exact spec.
